Longships Chess - The Board

The H-shaped board consists of 104 squares set out in the configuration see image, 10x10 with 4 additional squares set immediately behind the 10x10 matrix.

The orthodox set of 16 pieces per side, has been increased to 22 per side chess set, with the following additions either side:  2 extra pawns, 2 longship pieces (L) and 2 jarl pieces (J). The original 16 orthodox pieces remain in their usual central positions. The traditional Lewis set has no ‘castles’ as such, so necessitating the substitution of new castle pieces. The original Lewis Warden piece can then be used as the Jarl piece, see photograph of board setup.
